The 39th annual conference of the Cancer Control Society was held in Hollywood, California, September 3-6, 2011. Originally a meeting of cancer survivors and a few researchers willing to present their findings about alternative treatments, the Conference has grown to include a large number of Medical Doctors and Natural Medicine specialists, clinics, researchers on vitamins, supplements, dietary therapy and other preventative medicine tools. The Cancer Control Society's goal is to educate the public and professionals with information related to non-toxic alternative therapies and nutritional approaches to treating cancer and other diseases. In addition to their annual conferences, they produce video and audio reproductions of convention speakers, offer a venue for exhibitors, publish a calendar of events and health programs and serve as an information site for people seeking to learn more about integrative and natural cancer therapies.

There were over 40 presenters at this year's conference who spoke on a variety of topics including treatment options, dietary therapies and the latest research on natural anti-cancer agents.

What is emerging as "state of the art" in integrative cancer care is an innovative model that may include conventional treatment (radiation and chemotherapy) but also utilizes more precise testing and a multi-focused program that emphasizes support of the immune system, detoxification, dietary therapy, antioxidant status, psycho-emotional balancing techniques, life-style coaching and other methods. When chemotherapy is necessary, tools like IPT (Insulin Potentiation Therapy) can be used to reduce the amount of drugs needed and target the tumor more directly. Most presenters stressed the importance of treating the "whole person" and that there is no "one size fits all" with cancer treatment. New approaches to treating cancer incorporate the latest science along with the understanding that cancer is not just a lump or a bump but an attack on the immune system. Cancer needs to be rectified not just by cutting out the tumor, but by getting to the root of what caused it in the first place.

Several presenters from individual clinics talked about their work, including Charlotte Gerson from the Gerson Institute, Rodrigo Rodriguez, M.D., from International BioCare Hospital and Gilberto Alvarez, M.D. from the Stella Maris Clinic. Speakers presented exciting new research on anti-cancer substances, among them: Isaac Eliaz, M.D., discussed Modified Citrus Pectin, Barrie Tan, Ph.D. revealed new information about Tocotrienal Vitamin E and Rita Mikkelsaar, RN presented information on Poly-MVA. Several speakers discussed immunological approaches, stem cell therapies, alkalinization strategies and other approaches. New information was relayed about the dangers of sunscreen, radiation and cell phone technology. The variety of topics was extensive.
